Academic Programs-Overview

Parent-Child Class (2 months +)

The Parent-Child Class meets weekly under the guidance of a certified, experienced Montessori teacher. The program is a unique in-depth educational experience for parents and their children. Together they develop through socialization, movement to music, and free exploration.

Toddler Class (2 - 3 year olds)

The Toddler Class provides children the opportunity to experience a social setting away from home with activities that encourage independence. Emphasis is placed on increasing vocabulary and using words to express thoughts and emotions. The children make daily use of a special outdoor area which includes equipment for climbing, sliding, and spontaneous play. Children feel respected and loved in the warm, safe, and stimulating environment of the Toddler Class.

Primary Class (3 - 6 year olds)

Our Primary Classes bring together children from 3 to 6 years of age. Mixing ages allows for older children to become role models for their younger classmates. A feeling of community develops as younger children are helped by the older students.

The Montessori classroom is rich in oral language opportunities– listening to stories or reciting poems, singing, and conversing with others. These opportunities lead to the develop- ment of writing and reading. The math materials help children to develop an understanding of math concepts through the manipulation of concrete materials. This curriculum builds a secure foundation of math principles, skills, and problem-solving abilities. In geography, children become acquainted with the names of countries, cultures, and people in our world. Outdoor group time is spent at well-equipped parks which provide many opportunities for social interchange and physical development.

Our full-day kindergarten program is very rich in language activities. Emphasis is placed on developing reading and writing skills. In mathematics, children work with the full decimal system, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions. An extensive art curriculum is included where children explore using many media and techniques. Each child is given the time and tools to discover and develop his or her own artistic ability. The children leave our Montessori program fully prepared for first grade.
